Own me for a cool $5k

Own me for a cool $5k

Let me cut to the chase:

16MP (1.3x crop)
1080p video (24, 25 or 30fps)
720p video (50 or 60fps)
102,400ISO
45 point AF system
burst mode at 10fps

As compared to my poop Xsi:
12MP
No video
1,600 ISO
9 AF points
burst at 3.5fps

As per usual, Canon is hot on the heels of Nikon one upping them yet again. With full 1080p video, camera video samples are starting to pop up on the net. Check out this kick ass video taken only with this new camera announced today:

You’ll notice that it’s shot at night with limited lighting and the video still looks amazing. I wonder what I can get for my Xsi.

2010 Acura ZDX

Finally a nice looking >09 Acura

Finally a nice looking >09 Acura

Pictures started circulating for this new Acura crossover several weeks back, but a first drive article has just been posted

Here’s a summary of the article.

“The cockpit of this Acura is one of the nicest we’ve seen, period. It doesn’t really break any new ergonomic ground, although everything is right where it should be.”

“These [back] seats seem built specifically to fold down, which they do, nice and flat, giving you plenty of room for a double income’s worth of active-lifestyle stuff on the cabin floor and in the many cubbies”

“It should, in all fairness, be mentioned that there’s also a capable 300 HP 3.7-liter VTEC engine in front of this lovely interior.”

I’m definiely a DINK (or a SINK anyway). Well..  just read the article

iPhone 3GS in Canada sold out nationally

Author: Ryan Category: Electronics

Well, as most of you may know, the new iPhone (3GS) has been released in Canada. It was decided by my family that part of my fathers retirement/birthday gift, we’d upgrade his ancient Nokia to the new 3GS iPhone. My mom and I patiently waited in line lauch day and picked him up a black 16GB.

Good thing we did.

I headed back the other day after mulling over whether to do an upgrade to the 32GB 3GS. After setting up my dad’s iPhone I realized how much faster the phone is. I did a side by side load of cnn.com and the 3GS loaded in about 10 seconds and mine was somewhere on the 30 second mark. Sold…
Depending on your billing scenario, you may be eligible for the promo price of the phone for a direct swap. I’m eligible.

What about a jailbreak/unlock for the 3GS? As of last Thursday, redsn0w and ultrasn0w were updated for the 3GS. SWEET!

Now to wait till more stock starts to roll in.

WireframeSketcher - A screen mockup plugin for eclipse

Author: Ryan Category: programming

Rarely do I post much on the technical side of what interests me, but seeing as I have all the time in the world these days to catch up what’s new in the programming world I thought I start by talking about a new plug in I ran across. WireframeSketcher

This plugin allows you to create UI mockups and forward the resulting XML to someone else on the dev team to review/create from.

There is a trial available.

Apple WWDC 2009

Author: Ryan Category: Electronics

Another iPhone eh? 3GS? I suppose that the name really does a good job telling you that not much has really changed.

Changes?
Boost in performance
3MP camera that finally takes video (though jailbroken phones could all along)
Edit: I forgot the magnetic compass! ha

The better changes are coming in the release of version 3.0 of the iphone OS

MMS (FINALLY)
tethering (FINALLY)
copy / paste (FINALLY)
push notification (I think that I’ll pick me up an XCode book and write me some apps)
CalDAV
Find my iPhone (only if you have a mobileMe account)
much more

I’ll be happy when they have a it pwned. I don’t want to lose my baseband version so I can keep my iPhone unlocked for my trip to India

Take a look at the keynote for yourself.

More free apple stuff

Ever go to university / college, your student id probably works

Free iPod with mac purchase

Macs are overpriced as it is, though as I mentioned in a previous post you can head to the student portion of the website and plug in your old student number and you’re automatically a student.

I took advantage of this deal last year and got a mac with less of a price tag sting, AND a free ipod.

MYST for the iPhone/iTouch

MYST - Now on the iPhone!

MYST - Now on the iPhone!

Anyone that was involved in any sort of PC gaming in the early 90s will remember this classic. Cyan’s MYST was one game that really got me playing less sports and spending less time outside and more time sitting on my ass playing video games.

What was announced yesterday is that this game is now available through the Apple store. $5.99 and 727megs this is definitely a great game to buy if you havn’t played it.

RIP Pontiac

Pontiac is the latest brand to fall victim to the lackluster car sales in North America. General Motors has just announced that Pontiac will be “phased out by the end of 2010.”
